Last week I made the journey to Lisbon, Portugal for the 2014 IBJJF European championships and it was an amazing experience. Originally I did not plan to compete but after being encouraged by the team I signed up. After the experience I was glad I did. They saying goes sometimes you win and sometimes you learn, this time I did both. As soon as I get back I'll film what I learned and go over my matches, hopefully it will be released early next week.
Winning was good but that's not what made the experience special. Everyone worked hard, and at the the end of the day our team finished 3rd!! I can not express how amazing that felt!! When we started our association 18 months ago our goal was never to get the best possible Jiu Jitsu people together and become a strong competition team; rather it was to get the best possible PEOPLE together, regardless of ability, and to build a strong family. The association, like my online training, gives me a vehicle to spread my Jiu Jitsu and the lessons I've learned through Jiu Jitsu. I would have never thought in such a short time it would do that and so much more. The caliber of competitors we have is awesome and to share this experience with them was amazing. 2014 is just beginning but I can't wait for what's in store. Next up SF OPEN!
