This past weekend was the 2016 San Jose Open. After a very long two days our team came home with first place in both the gi and no gi divisions. This would not have been possible with out the sacrifice of so many people…. Continue reading

CREONTE ISN'T A REAL WORD
In my school, I don’t use the word Creonte, I don’t believe in it. At the Academy and through out my association I do believe strongly in teaching martial values. Values such as: honesty, integrity, respect and loyalty. When I teach loyalty, it’s not so that my students never leave, I teach it with the hope that my students don’t forget who their teacher is, who I was and our relationship. If they leave, which there’s a good chance that at some point they will for whatever reason, they always recognize and remember our time together and my place in their journey.
If you think of it like college, we might go one place for undergraduate and another for graduate school. When people ask where did you go to college you say both schools because you are appreciative for what they taught you and typically show some loyalty to the university. It is after all a part of your life.
No Gi Worlds 2015
Going into this years worlds no gi from the outside everything looked the same but for me it was completely different.
As we were training I looked at our team and saw in their eyes the same dreams I had when I was younger, to be a champion. This year has been a defining year in my life, I realized that although I like to compete I like coaching more, because I love our team.
At no gi worlds after I lost the absolute to a very tough Dj Jackson my thoughts immediately were of my brother, Kim Terra and my CTA family who’s dreams would have to wait another year. Some traveled as far away as Hawaii to come up short and I know their time will come.
Destiny
Years ago I made the decision to start my own association. At the time it wasn’t the easiest decision as I had a steady teaching position (in addition to my own gym) and I knew it was a gamble. After giving it some thought… Continue reading
