Through Jiu-Jitsu We can change our lives.
I was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. My Jiu-Jitsu journey began in 2002 when I was 16 years old at my mother's behest. As a teen, I was physically smaller than my peers (I weighed 88lbs entering high school) and my mother, worried about my safety, insisted I enroll in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Like many rebellious teenagers, I did not initially like it, but over time, as I started to understand it, I started to love it. Within 3 years, I earned the rank of Black Belt. Through Jiu Jitsu, I learned to problem solve, overcome adversity, and above all, believe in myself. Jiu-Jitsu changed my life in so many ways, and I hope it can change yours too!
DEDICATED TRAINING
Despite my initial lack of motivation, I eventually started going more regularly to class. After receiving my white and blue belts under Ricardo Vieira, Rodrigo Medeiros, and Felipe Costa, I started training under Grandmaster Paulo Mauricio Strauch and Grandmaster Reyson Gracie.
The biggest problem at my new gym was that I could only attend one class per day. This lead me to build a mat room in my house that enabled me to train four to five times a day! When I wasn't training, I was studying. Since that time Jiu Jitsu has become a part of my life. The more I learned, the more I liked it and the funner it became. Within three years of dedicated training, I received my black belt under Grandmaster Stauch and Reyson Gracie in 2006.
3 year black belt
I remember, at that time, people questioned how anyone could anyone possibly become a black belt with only three years of training, especially in bjj? Lucky for me, I enjoyed competing and my results silenced the critics.
Before leaving Brazil I was a four-time Rio de Janeiro state champion, a five-time Brazilian National Champion, and eventually thirteen-time World Medalist. I am the the only ten-time International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) Black Belt World No-Gi Champion. Additionally, I won the IBJJF Black Belt World Champion (Gi) in 2008 and 2013. At Caio Terra Online, I share my experiences, lessons and methodology so you learn more than the techniques of a black belt world champion, you learn to think like a black belt world champion!

In 2011, he opened his own academy in San Jose, California. Professor Caio has conducted over 400 seminars, and in 2012 felt it was time to bring his unique brand of Jiu Jitsu to the world and started the "Caio Terra Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Association" (CTA).
In 2014, he took it one step further and launched "Caio Terra Online"! His goal was to create more than just a resource for Jiu Jitsu practitioners, but a place where the members would evolve into a community, devoid of politics, negativity and ego. After all, we play the same sport, and love the same martial art!
The Caio Terra Association (CTA)
The Caio Terra Association (CTA) is founded on the belief that through Jiu Jitsu we can change lives. We embrace the one team philosophy; by ourselves we can be good but together we can be great. Together it's our mission to improve the lives of our family, our students and those in our communities, the Caio Terra way!
